Glossary of Sports Betting Terms
Action is a wager or bet of any type in sports handicapping or any form of gambling.
A bet is risking collateral of some sort, usually money, to gain laurels on the outcome of an event.
The Book is an establishment that accepts wagers and bets on the outcome of sporting events.
A bookie is an individual that acts on behalf of the house and accepts wagers from bettors on the outcome of sporting events.
Buying Points s the act of paying money for additional points to be added or subtracted to the spread. A bettor can buy either half points or whole points. Buying a point while betting on the favorite would move the spread from (-4) to (-3). The downfall of buying points is that your reward for winning is reduced, but without buying the points, you may lose the bet.
The Cover is when a bet against the spread is won. This means the favorite won by enough points, or the underdog loses by few enough points. If the Spread is 4 when a bet is placed on the favorite, they must win by 5, and when a bet is placed on the underdog they must lose by no more than 3.
Even Money is when the odds are 1/1 meaning there is no spread.
The Favorite is the team expected to win an event. This is reflected in the spread and money line, and a key factor in who to bet on

"My friend got me hooked on sports gambling a few years back. It was fun, but it wasn't a revenue generating experience by any means, it was a hobby and an expense. Since joining the King of the Spread it has become a revenue generator to the point where it could be considered an income. I Keep Calm and Win with the King!" Jack M.
