How do you get into the Top Ten in MMA these days? I am bit out of the loop on this. In the past, in order to get into the Top Ten a fighter was required to hold a belt in an organization outside of the UFC or string together a five fight win streak or greater. Once in the Top Ten you were required to stay in the win column and if you lost it must be to an opponent of higher rank or the fighter could be kicked from the Top Ten.
This doesn’t seem to be the case anymore or at least from what I have noticed. No I understand that rankings are a tad bit skewed by hype and that the UFC’s own rankings may be biased towards their own fighters for business growth.
There will always be some fighters ranked higher and lower than they deserve.
But there is one fighter so undeserving of his rank – I am baffled at the MMA Community for allowing this. This fighter is not just in the Top Ten, BUT IN THE TOP 5!!!!
I will not name this fighter but share with you some information about his record and stats:
He has NEVER beaten a Top TEN opponent in his UFC tenure and an 0-4 record against A level fighters.
Has never won for than 4 fights in a row (Highest Level Opponent of each win streak were C+ or B(-))
Never beaten a fighter higher than a B(-) level (One could argue those are C level fighters)
What irritates me the most is I have to listen to this fighter talk in interviews on why certain fighters aren’t on his level or deserve a fight against him. “I’m too good for that guy; tell him to fight some other scrubs” “They just want to make a name of fighting me”
I mean seriously, You haven’t beaten anybody or done anything in the sport to allow you to talk like that to other fighters. They are on their way up fight them or step out of the way. You clearly had your chance at the upper echelon of fighters and went 0-4 against them. You clearly don’t belong in the TOP TEN let alone the Top FIVE!
Please tell me if I am wrong and state your opinion but if you think the below MMA-record is deserving of a top five ranking than I don’t know if I can consider you an informed MMA fan.
